Important Dates and Reminders

Language Arts:  We will be wrapping up our unit on Money in our reading anthology.  Today students began working on a rough draft essay about their personal experience with money.  They are also including a paragraph about what they would do if they had a huge sum of money.  If time permits, your assistance editing and revising this piece of writing would be greatly appreciated.  We hope to begin writing the final drafts in class tomorrow.

In the limited time we have left, we will continue to read a variety of stories from our anthology based on student interest.  I will be encouraging your student to use at least some of their 20 minutes of home reading to practice reading aloud with proper pronunciation and phrasing (expression!).

Math:  We have two topics to complete - Customary Measurement and Metric Measurement.  Students that have mastered their basic facts and complete their daily math class work will have very little math homework the rest of the school year.  We will review for the Trimester 3 benchmark test and well as the cumulative end of the year test.

Science:  This week we will finish up our Physical Science unit.  I think you will be very impressed with how much your child knows and understands about matter, elements, atoms, the periodic table, solids, liquids and gases.  Our next and final unit is on the Solar System.  Students will be selecting a topic this week to research and write about.

Please mark your calendars for the following important dates:

May is bike month!  The weather is perfect for biking!  Heron has set a goal of 7300 bike trips.  A bike trip equals 10 minutes of riding.  Each school morning students will have an opportunity to log in how many bike trips they have made the day before including trips they made over the weekend.

Last week book orders went home.  If you would like to order online, please log on to www.scholastic.comand click on book clubs.  Our class code is:  GMY8H.  Book orders are due Friday, May 4th.
